Orthotics & Prosthetics Association of India (OPAI),is the National level Association working for the development of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Profession & its professionals in India since 1979.

The Orthotics & Prosthetics professionals are the experts in the assessment, prescription, design, fabrication, fitting and training of Prostheses, Orthoses and other Mobility rehabilitation Aids for persons with locomotor disabilities, Orthopedically and neurologically afflicted persons. These devices are essential for improving the mobility, function and quality of life of persons with disabilities and aging population in India.

Prosthetics and Orthotics is a recognized health care profession under World Health Organization (WHO) and its experts are registered Professionals under Rehabilitation Council of India after acquiring Bachelors and Master level qualifications recognized from Indian Universities with a well-structured course curriculum containing every aspect of Medical Science and Engineering. As a professional Association, OPAI endeavors to maintain high standards for professional practices in India in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics. OPAI is actively involved in standardization of Prostheses, Orthoses and Mobility devices in the Bureau of Indian Standard as the member of technical Committee MHD 009.

These Prosthetics & Orthotics professionals are engaged in design, development and fabrication of Prosthetics (Artificial limbs) to the amputees and Orthotics (Aids and Appliances) for Locomotor disabled in Scientific manner by using latest technologies.

The Prosthetics & Orthotics Professional courses are being conducted up to Post Graduate level (MPO) under  different Boards and Universities throughout the country as per the Guidelines of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

OPAI Vision :Towards ensuring fullest independency and inclusion of persons with disabilities; Promoting fullest participation by creating equal opportunities with functional mobility by every means and empowering the quality of the life of persons with disabilities with appropriate Aids & Appliances with technological interventions.

The technology so gradually developed have now grown well than the state of cosmetic appearance to a functional one and is a greater sign of advancement of the P&O profession.

It is really excited to say that it is the P & O professionals who brought this advancement with the functional innovative Prosthetics and Orthotics appliances assuring more than the sufficient normal function.

Orthotics & Prosthetics Association of India (OPAI) has conducted 27 National conferences in different parts of the Country for duration of 3 days with one day pre-conference.  OPAI also conducts Continuing Rehabilitation Education Programmes (CRE) in different parts of the country to update the new technological know how among the professionals. 

OPAI is also published few issues of a biannual ISSN indexed Journal from the year 2011.

This 28th  National conference of OPAI will witness around 500 P&O Professionals & about 100 Scientific papers deliberations in 2days with about 40 poster presentations. The inaugural ceremony of OPAI-2025 MIDCON will be held on 01.02.2025 (Saturday) at 11AM followed by opening ceremony of the exhibition by the VVIPs.

There is a pre conference Workshop on 31.01.2025 on two different topics.
